Kenny Scharf was born in Hollywood, California in 1958. He received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York City in 1980. He incorporates a Modernist appreciation of formal aesthetics into a Post-Modern eclecticism. In synthesizing the fluidly organic with the egregiously artificial, he encapsulates the ambivalence of his generation toward technology and nature. The result is an outrageous, hallucinatory and colorfully amusing visual experience. He has had one-person exhibitions in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Essen, London, Milan, Naples, Paris, Dusseldorf, Zurich, Amsterdam and Tokyo. His work appears in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the Ludwig Museum, Cologne, Germany, the Monterrey Museum of Art, Monterrey, Mexico, the Sogetsu Museum, Tokyo, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Eli Broad Foundation, Los Angeles and the Lannan Foundation, Los Angeles. Scharf has also incorporated his imagery in numerous commercial designs for clients such as Sony and Swatch.
